CARCOSA

You awake without context. No map that remembers you. No name that stays the same twice. No orders that survive contact with reality. A company sent you here. You think. Carcosa does not confirm. Uniforms are issued on arrival. Webbing fits too perfectly. Helmets arrive in styles no one agreed on. Weapons are always present. Always limited. Two magazines. That is enough. It has always been enough. You are told this is an investigation. But the city does not behave like something being studied. It behaves like something studying back. Squads repeat. Names repeat. Voices repeat. Sometimes you meet people who swear they’ve met you before. Sometimes they are right. There are places in Carcosa that do not exist until you look at them too long. There are sounds that only appear when you stop moving. There are doors that open only after you forget why you were avoiding them. You will encounter resistance. It will not always understand why it is fighting you. Neither will you.
