Originally founded as a small fishing village during the 19th century, Lónghǎi Dock grew into a major maritime trading hub in Hong Kong under British colonial rule, developing deep-water docks, warehouses, and shipyards that connected Hong Kong with international markets. During the 1980s, following China’s economic reforms and the gradual opening of trade with the outside world, Lónghǎi Dock became a crucial gateway between Hong Kong and the global economy. Its port expanded rapidly, handling increasing volumes of cargo, foreign ships, and commercial activity as manufacturing and trade across the region grew.
