Pilot into the belt, cut ore and rare gems out of the rocks with your mining laser, and haul them back to the refinery to upgrade from a scrappy Vagabond into something that owns the field. Then push into pirate territory for the tech to build a warp gate, and mind your hull: get shot down and you lose the haul you were carrying.
