During the Liberation War: Xunyang was part of the Yun-Hu-Shaan Border Region. On April 13, 1948, the People's Liberation Army entered the county town without bloodshed, and Xunyang was liberated for the first time. On April 15, the Xunyang County Party Committee and County Democratic Government were established. On November 26, 1949, the entire territory of Xunyang County was liberated.
