About & history
Hastings Public Safety Academy is a newly-renovated joint emergency services training facility situated just outside Fairhaven City limits in Sunrise, SR. Hastings was originally a training range used by the Serrano National Guard. It was initially built by the military in 1942 when it housed Aspidistra, a powerful military radio station. Aspidistra was decommissioned in 1972 and the site was transferred to the Serrano National Guard, who used it as a live fire and artillery range for soldiers stationed at the nearby Haven Airbase. SRNG cleared the woodland area around the former transmitter site and built a small mock town to use for training in close-quarters and urban combat, in the event of a Soviet invasion or Communist uprising. The site passed hands again in 1993 when authorities recognised the need to expand the FCPD's riot control capabilities in the aftermath of the 1992 Civil Disturbance. In 2009, the site was renovated into a joint police / fire academy.
