Willis Meadows was 19 in the spring of 1862 when he joined his brothers and cousins in Company G of the 37th Alabama Volunteer Infantry.and was assigned to the western front along the Mississippi River, after a long lasting battle with union soldiers from company H of the fifth Iowa volunteer infantry and were ordered to kill confederate snipers.Peter Knapp had shot Meadows in the right eye.He lived the rest of the war as a patient after surgery to remove the bullet itself would have been too risky but 58 years later Willis begean to choke and he coughed out of the bullet he had been shot with,what a legend.
