Rikstanken

A modified Landsverk L-120, the Rikstanken was the only tank in the arsenal of the Norwegian Army after the German invasion on April 9th, 1940. Realizing that they needed to modernize their forced, the Norwegian government granted the army NOK 20,000 in order to procure a tank to begin the formation of an armored training corps. Unfortunately, the Swedish L-120 they wished to purchase ended up costing NOK 50,000 including shipping. So, the Norwegians had the turret and armor stripped off. On arrival, the Norwegians added their own iron plated armor onto the chassis frame and created their own turret, a simplified cylinder with a cutout for a Colt m/29 LMG. Despite other efforts to acquire more tanks and upgrade Rikstanken, the tank was ultimately lived out the rest of its days for training. When mobilizing, Dragoon Regiment 1 (of which Rikstanken belonged to at that time) chose not to take the tank with them into battle. Rikstanken was ultimately captured and disappeared.
