Ten-Ichi-Go

Vice Admiral Seiichi Ito (r) and Captain Kosaku Aruga (l), the two top-ranking officers aboard the battleship Yamato at the time of Operation Ten-Go. Ito, despite having reservations about launching it (thought of it as a waste of lives and futile), relented after the Emperor pressured the navy to provide effort to the defense of Okinawa. "But what about the Navy? What are they doing to assist in defending Okinawa? Do we have no more ships?" Ito and Aruga went down with the battleship and they were both promoted posthumously; Ito to full Admiral, and Aruga two steps to vice-admiral.
