About & history
The HMHS Calypso served as a hospital ship during World War I, providing vital medical support to wounded soldiers. Converted from a civilian vessel, it was equipped with medical facilities and staffed by doctors, nurses, and support personnel. The Calypso transported the wounded from battlefields to safer locations for treatment, navigating the dangerous waters of war zones. Its white-painted hull, marked with the Red Cross, symbolized its mission of mercy amidst the chaos of conflict. The ship played a crucial role in saving lives, offering a vital lifeline to those injured during the war.
