As I stepped over the threshold of the new house, I was greeted by Dad’s familiar, warm smile, his arms open in that comforting way he always did when we moved. But something felt off—like the house was too quiet, the air too still. The usual excitement of moving in had somehow dulled. I glanced around, searching for Mum, expecting her to be there, organizing things or making tea like she always did. But she wasn't. The silence in the air felt heavier now, like something was missing, and I couldn't shake the feeling that things had changed in ways I wasn’t yet ready to understand. “Where’s Mum?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
