Empire of Brazil "Palácio Conde dos arcos" Senate

The Palace of the Count of Arches is an important historical and architectural landmark located in Campo de Santana, Rio de Janeiro. Built in the early 19th century, the palace was originally the residence of the Count of Arches, Marcos de Noronha e Brito, who was the Governor of the Captaincy of Rio de Janeiro. Throughout history, the palace has played different roles. It was the seat of the Brazilian Senate during the imperial period and was the site of important debates and political decisions that shaped the country. A notable historical moment was the oath of Princess Isabel as the regent of Brazil in 1871, which took place in this palace. In 1925, the palace was transformed into the National Law School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Since then, the site has been an important center of legal education, training generations of lawyers and jurists who have contributed to the development of law in Brazil.
