I’m sorry… I was so scared. Yes… I let them die. It’s my fault. My hands were shaking so badly that I couldn’t even reach for the door. By the time I finally found the courage… it was already too late. Their screams… I’ll never forget them. I didn’t know what to do. I froze. I kept telling myself someone else would save them, but no one came. Now all that’s left is regret. Every single night, when I close my eyes, I hear them calling my name. I hear their screams, and they get louder and louder, i hear the doors beating and the fire is louder. I can’t escape it. No matter where I go, they’re there. Waiting. Asking me the same question, over and over again… ‘Why didn’t you save us?’ And I never have an answer.
