Paco en el mondo! (a tribute to L. L. Zamenhof)

“Paco en el mondo” means “peace to the world” in Esperanto. L. L. Zamenhof (1859-1917) was the inventor of the Esperanto language, a physician and a philosopher of peace. Zamenhof was a humanist and believed that all men are brothers and should see each other as such; regardless of what country they come from, what language they speak, what god they believe in nor what color their skin is. Zamenhof believed men should always seek to find common ground, and believed that if enemies would seek to see things through each other’s eyes instead of jumping to their guns the world would have peace. Zamenhof believed that if there was one universal second language that everyone could learn while still being allowed to hold on to their own native language, then it would make it easier to reach common ground, that is why he developed Esperanto, which in its own language means “the one who hopes”. Though Zamenhof's dream never came true there is still hope for the future.
