Porto Velho Air Base [BAPV]

Location: Porto Velho, Rondônia, Brazil. ICAO: SBPV IATA: PVH The Porto Velho Air Base (BAPV) is a Brazilian Air Force base located in the city of Porto Velho, the capital of the state of Rondônia. Designed due to the need for internalization of the Brazilian Air Force, with the aim of defending the borders of the Amazon and its natural resources. The BAPV was built in record time, just 13 months, and inaugurated on October 31, 1984, by then-President of the Republic João Batista de Oliveira Figueiredo. Air units: Poti Squadron (2nd/8th GAv): Operating with the UH-1 Iroquoise HB-50 Squirrel helicopters. Currently operating the Russian-made AH-2 Sabre aircraft. Griffon Squadron (2nd/3rd GAv): Operating with fighter aircraft (light attack) AT-27 (Embraer EMB 312 Tucano). At the end of that same year, the unit began flying with the modern A/T-29 Super Tucano aircraft.
