Fallen Heroes

The year is 1947, you're deep in the trenches, mud soaking through your boots, the stench of smoke and earth filling your lungs. For a moment, your mind drifts home—warm lights, familiar faces, a life that feels impossibly distant. “Just a little longer.” you whisper. PHWEEEE! A shell shrieks overhead, you jolt upright. “MOVE! LET’S GO!” your commander yells. Soldiers climb the trench ladder into the grey sky. No more hesitation. You grip your rifle and follow, pulling yourself into No Man’s Land. Chaos erupts instantly. Artillery thunders on both sides, dirt exploding around you. Shrapnel slices the air as you push forward, adrenaline drowning out fear. PING! Something slams into your helmet. It flies off, spinning into a muddy crater. Dazed, you stagger toward it— Boom. A bullet strikes you in the chest, then head. Your knees give out, your rifle drops, and the thought of home fades into the cold silence as the darkness takes over. Your war is over.
