One of the rarest gemstone in the world known. in the world. Taaffeite was discovered as late as 1945. It was named after this discover called the Dublin gemologist Count Taaffe. This mineral Was first discovered as a cut stone among some faceted gems recovered from old jewelry. it was orginally mistaken from spinel which is similar in appearance,harness and destiny. It was then noticed that gem was doubly refractive,whereas spinel singly refractive. On examination,he stone was discovered to be beryllium,manesium and aluminum oxide.
