And that's before they become red supergiants. This star (meant to represent UY Scuti) starts at 28 solar masses as a protostar, and reaches a mass of 30 solar masses by main sequence, then expands into a red hypergiant, before releasing its outer layers, exposing a smaller star inside it, which later goes supernova. As the star grows, it comes at the cost of temperature since the luminosity isn't increasing enough to keep its blue color, which is why stars become redder as they grow.
