About

August 27th, 2005 - Houma, LA Opening in 1968 as the Broadhurst Plaza, the open-air mall featured a Sears as its main draw. In 1976, it was rumored that a new mall would be opening in north Houma, LA, and the plaza was enclosed. The now Broadhurst Center reopened in 1978 with a JCPenney, Dillard’s, McRaes, and the existing Sears as its anchors. Into the late 80s, the mall received a renovation. However, occupancy rates were falling, and was made even worse when the McRae’s suffered a massive water main break in 1993. The building sat for a few years before being razed and having a new Foley’s built on its site. JCPenney shuttered its location in 2000, and the Dillard’s was demoted to a clearance center in 2003. The mall was sold off to the Kohan Realty Investment Group from its original owners; Mall Properties, Inc. Sears closed in 2004, and Foley’s followed closing in early 2004 after holiday sales were finalized. As of now, the mall has only 7 tenants still operating on the site.
